Volunteers are the heartbeat of CAIR-WA’s work and mission. Harnessing the untapped treasure of talents and expertise that currently lies dormant in our community is one of CAIR-WA’s primary goals. We strive for organized, professional, and enlightened community activism. Be part of a team that is able to make the right difference for WA.
“Dispatch” Volunteer Activists
Dispatch Volunteer Activists help at a variety of events held by our partner organizations. Examples include volunteering at fundraising auctions, banquets, celebrations, service events to help the needy, reading prepared statements at political meetings, and even attending rallies and marches. Through their work, these volunteers help CAIR-WA provide value to our partner organizations while having a great time and meeting new people. All positions are unpaid. Examples of past events include a fundraising auction held by our ally organization at Seattle’s landmark Experience Music Project (EMP) where our Dispatch Volunteers helped with registration, ushering and even modeling auction items on stage!
Dispatch Volunteer Activists are expected to:
- Attend at least one volunteer opportunity each month, either hosted by CAIR-WA or a partner of CAIR-WA (once a month is the minimum, you are welcome to participate more frequently)
- Response within 48 hours via e-mail or phone to volunteer requests
- Provide reliable, prompt service at volunteer events. This includes appropriate attire and punctuality
- Have a very positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, diplomatic, professional demeanor.
In return, volunteer activists can expect the following from CAIR-WA’s staff
- At least one week’s notice of an upcoming volunteer opportunity
- Clear event details, requirements and other information prior to attendance
Community Outreach Volunteer Activists
Community Outreach volunteers are dedicated to empowering local Muslim communities by spreading awareness of CAIR-WA campaigns and engaging a number of community members in these campaigns. Examples of work done by Community Outreach Volunteers include voter registration, sign-ups for our Online Article Comments Team and Letter to Editor Team, arranging distribution of flyers and making a variety of educational announcements at prayers and other community gatherings.
Through their work, these volunteers help Muslim community members become aware of their civil rights and able to assert these rights, and become more engaged in the political process and in media. This helps Muslims make a strong impact on how lawmakers view their local Muslim constituents and the way Islam and Muslims are covered in mainstream media. All positions are unpaid.
Community Outreach Volunteer Activists are expected to:
- Spend the required amount of time training at CAIR-WA office on topics including CAIR-WA’s work, our outreach and community engagement philosophy and best practices in alliance-building.
- Attend monthly continuing training meetings
- Stay aware of upcoming events in their community (conferences, sports tournaments, etc.), inform CAIR-WA of these, and arrange well in advance to have an active, visible CAIR-WA presence there in the form of at least an educational announcement, as well as educational workshops, etc.
- Arrange all details of the above in conjunction with the CAIR-WA volunteer coordinator
- Stay connected with volunteer coordinator via e-mail or phone, including responding to e-mails or phone calls within 24 hours.
- Be reliable, prompt, aware and engaged in their communities. This also includes appropriate attire, demeanor and punctuality.
