Muslim Days at the Capitol (MDAC)

Muslim Days at the Capitol 2021 is a week-long advocacy event hosted by CAIR Washington, Somali Health Board, Cham Refugees Community, and MAPS Redmond. This year, it takes place on Monday, February 1 to Friday, February 5. The event will be fully online including meetings with representatives and optional evening and lunch-hour programming.

Bystander Intervention Training

Ever wonder what you would do if you saw someone being harassed or attacked because of their gender, race, faith, etc.? CAIR-WA has you covered! Every month, we’re hosting Bystander Intervention Trainings (BIT) at local churches, mosques, nonprofits, community centers – wherever we’re invited! The trainings are interactive and use the Bystander Intervention Training curriculum developed by the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition. The curriculum is rooted in principles of nonviolence and nonviolent activism. To see when the next BIT is, visit our Facebook events page.

Muslim Day at the Capitol (MDAC) - 2019

After a 4-year hiatus, we're excited to announce the return of MUSLIM DAY AT THE CAPITOL (MDAC), March 21st in Olympia, WA! Join us for "Muslim lobby day" as we take a group of 40-60 community leaders to meet with state representatives and discuss issues of importance to Washington's Muslim community.

In May, CAIR-WA will be presenting to employees at Amazon to discuss Ramadan and religious accommodations in the workplace.


Presentation at Seattle Public Schools

Throughout May 2018, CAIR-WA will present to educators in Seattle Public Schools on Ramadan, Eid, and how educators can support Muslim students in the classroom

Second Bystander Intervention Training

On May 26, dozens of Seattle-area residents attended our second Bystander Intervention Training to find out how to protect their neighbors. "We were extremely grateful and humbled to see such an engaged audience, filled with individuals committed to protecting their neighbors," said CAIR-WA Civil Rights Assistant Director McKenna Lux. We would like to extend a big thank you to our hosts and sponsors – Kadima, Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church, and Seattle Foundation.

Our History, Our Responsibility

February 19, 2018 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. at Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion. CAIR-WA partnered with Densho to host this year's Day of Remembrance event at the Seattle Center, featuring Gold Star father Khizr Khan, musician Kishi Bashi, and others to speak on Our History, Our Responsibility.

Media Training

February 11, 2018. “YOU are all you need to challenge Islamophobia." In this event, we discuss tough topics with American Muslim women who are empowered to use their stories and voices to speak out and combat the rhetoric of hate. Shout out to MAPS-AMEN for co-organizing the 2nd training in our series! If you’ve missed us, keep an eye out for more trainings in the near future!


Bystander Intervention Training

CAIR-WA held Bystander Intervention Training on Saturday January 13, 2018 from 11-1 at the Courtyard Marriott in downtown Seattle. This training taught how to engage in situations of public harassment and violence without escalating the danger.

The training was led by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Washington State.

Rally Against the Muslim Ban

On Wednesday, December 6, CAIR-Washington joined a coalition of organizations for #NoMuslimBanEver rally in downtown Seattle. The rally was timed to coincide with the 9th Circuit Court's Hearing of Muslim Ban case Hawaii v. Trump. Click here to find more information about the rally.


Banquet 2017

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to raise over $260,000 to defend civil rights, empower American Muslims and promote mutual understanding. We will continue to work toward raising our 2017 budget of $500,000 so that we can scale our work to meet the challenges and grasp the opportunities before us so that in the future, not far from now, American Muslim children can grow up with the same hopes and dreams as any young American.

Election 2016: A Live Televised Elections Debate

On Monday, October 24, 2016, about 250 community members, including at least 150 voters with ballots in hand, participated in an evening of personal, positive story-telling, questions and debates that so far has been watched online by almost 100k media audiences! This was our state's first ever live-cast elections debates held at a Muslim community venue.

Banquet 2016

Despite increased hostility and resulting hate attacks, we and all American Muslims now have more fair-minded allies than ever before, who are using their voices to vocally and publicly stand with us. Come learn about the progress we've made in defending the rights of local Muslims and in mobilizing a broad coalition of support.

2014 WA STATE MUSLIM LOBBY DAY: JANUARY 20, 2013 (MLK, JR. DAY)

CAIR-WA’s annual lobby day provides hundreds of Washington State Muslims with the tools and the hands-on experience needed to engage with elected officials, to participate in the political process, and impact decisions that affect all of our lives. Participants engaged in meetings with their state-level Representatives and Senators and learn how to make a real difference.

2011 4th of July Parades

This year local Muslims participated in the 4th of July Parades across the Puget Sound, including those in Bothell, Burien and Olympia. CAIR-WA co-organized a Muslim contingent for the Burien 4th of July Parade. The Muslim teams carried banners and American flags, and tossed candy at parade watchers. The groups included youth, families, activists, U.S. military veterans, and community leaders.

MYLP 2011

This exciting five day event introduced American Muslim youth to powerful careers where professionals have opportunities to shape public opinion and public policy as a course of their work. Through meetings with elected officials and top executives in media, law, PR, lobbying, and other important fields in which Muslims are underrepresented in, participants were able to explore careers in those fields.
