On August 22, 2011 CAIR-WA sent a letter to the superintendents of Washington State’s 295 school districts, requesting accommodations for Muslim students during Ramadan as well as Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha.

Specifically, CAIR-WA asked that Muslim students who are fasting be allowed a choice to take their lunch in the cafeteria and that parents/guardians be alerted if their students behavior or academic performance declines when fasting.
Since many public schools in Washington are not yet in session, CAIR-WA also requested accommodations for two upcoming Muslim holidays, Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, and Eid Al-Adha which marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage. CAIR-WA asked that educators prepare for both holidays by not planning exams or important assignment for those days, and allowing Muslim students to make up their work before or after their absence. Eid Al-Fitr is anticipated to fall on August 30th or 31st, and Eid Al-Adha is anticipated to fall on or around November 6th, depending on an individual’s school of thought.
