On Saturday, July 23, CAIR-WA Executive Director attended the second day of the two-day series of events designed to educate faith leaders on the issues encountered by truck drivers who transport goods to and from the Port of Seattle.
Puget Sound Sage is working on to ensure better pay for port truckers, healthier environmental standards, and more freedom for drivers. Puget Sound Sage has been working on the campaign for many months, and plans to continue to educate various community leaders about the many injustices port truckers encounter.
The day began at the Youngstown Cultural Center in West Seattle with breakfast and introductions. Then, participants took a guided tour of Port of Seattle facilities especially areas used by truck drivers who transport goods to and from the Port. Participants also had an opportunity to hear from three truck drivers who spoke about their typical work days. Lastly, participants discussed strategies to support truck drivers in their efforts to gain better working conditions.
